Two days ago, this Osprey had a gigantic nest built on the top of this power pole at Fort DeSoto Park near St. Petersburg, FL. Today I drove by and saw this sad scene.
Apparently the Park Rangers didn’t think his nest was a tourist attraction. Perhaps they thought it would be dangerous for the Osprey or Park Visitors gawking from the road below. Either way, he’s trying to figure out what to do now!
Poor guy! I wish they would have removed the nest earlier….the birds were just starting to return to the nests to breed over here in east Central Florida around that time. Poor things!
They also should have known they could have put up a platform on a higher pole and the birds would have naturally moved to the higher place! How sad!
If that is electricity, it would be afire hazard, if not beaurucratic twaddle. There is a vacant block opposite the Deception Bay shopping Centre, with a huge dead tree smack in the midle that Osprey have been nesting in for years. A development group (and council I think) Said they were going to knock it down, the locals reacted violently, threatening to burn any equipment brought onto the site. The birds still nest there and that was nearly a decade ago – A good Day.
That is a sad scene, but what a way to capture it…this image combined w/ your story makes for a really emotional image….although this is so sad, what a fabulous job of conveying the story!
